Mother’s Day was a reminder for students to recognize how much they admire and look up to their moms. From planning unforgettable birthdays to raising well-rounded children, it is well understood that moms can shape people’s lives.
Freshman Daisy Padilla admires her mother, Tiffany Padilla, who embodies thoughtfulness, especially at her job at a local preschool.
“She is always nice to everybody, and she works with kids. So, I get to learn a lot from her,” shared Padilla.
Junior Reece Hamilton recognizes her mother’s incredible work ethic and how it keeps her big family prepared. She competes in competitive ice skating and ballet, which requires early morning practices and countless flights, and her mom helps her find opportunities and plan schedules.
“She organizes, like, all three of our [Hamilton and her siblings’] schedules, gets us, like, the best coaching … the best schools, the best education … all while having, like, a full time job as … a lawyer,” said Hamilton.
She adds how her mom’s encouragement has played a prevalent role throughout her life.
“Without my mom, I wouldn’t be the person I am … She always supports us and just wants us to grow. If she wasn’t … here … I wouldn’t be going to NDB, I wouldn’t be skating, I wouldn’t be doing … all that stuff,” she added.
Senior Alexis Hom also shared insight on her mother’s resilient and confident character.
“So, my mom is a self-made woman. This is, like, the only way I can describe her … She … had to grow up really fast. So, I look up to her in that sense. Like, she made it all happen for herself. So, 100%, I look up to her and definitely see her as a role model,” shared Hom.
One of Hom’s favorite memories of her mother was watching her buy her dream house. It was a heartwarming moment to watch her countless hours of work pay off and achieve such a feat.
“She bought that house for all of us. Like our extended family, too … which is something I really admire [and shows] how giving she is,” she said.
Hom added how much she respects her mom’s strength.
“When I was younger, I was a little spoiled brat that took everything for granted and, like, didn’t know what I had … Now, it’s just like, as I’m getting older, I realize how much respect I have for my mom … That’s [her mom’s autonomy] something that I look up to now and something that I will, like, try to be half as good at, when I get older,” she stated.
Mothers across the world continue to inspire their children and encourage them to be the best versions of themselves. While May 11 is observed as Mother’s Day, it is clear that we should tell our mothers how much they mean to us everyday.
