This year, Mother’s Day was on Sunday, May 11. Students celebrated in a variety of ways, such as bringing their mom breakfast in bed, doing her favorite activities or cleaning the house.
Mother’s Day is the one day of each year when mothers are truly celebrated for all of the hard work they do for their families.
“My family and I have made breakfast or brunch for my mom,” said junior Finley Wilke-Hiland. “We always spend time with each other.”
Often life is busy, and it can be hard to find time to spend with one’s mother because, once they do have some free time, they only want to relax.
“It’s so important to celebrate Mother’s Day because our moms do so much for us every single day,” explained Wilke-Hiland.
It is true that our moms are always working hard, and sometimes these acts go unnoticed. So, it is important to acknowledge them as often as we can, even on days other than Mother’s Day.
“Moms do so much for us, and they always ask for nothing in return. So, I think it’s really important to let them know that we appreciate and care about what they do for us,” said sophomore Cadence Goblirsch.
Goblirsch described how she celebrates Mother’s Day by having brunch at her grandmother’s house and buying her flowers.
“My mom definitely enjoys what we do. She’s always so thankful for it … and that makes me happy,” she said.
On Mother’s Day, families try to incorporate activities into the celebration, with some choosing whatever their moms love.
“My mom loves [electric] bikes,” stated senior Sianna Kiebler. “Last year, my dad and I took her to the [Pulgas Water Temple], and we biked there.”
It makes moms feel extra appreciated when they can celebrate their special day with their loved ones doing their favorite things. Additionally, while it can be difficult sometimes to remember to thank your mom, it is always important to do so.
“I think it’s just important to say like, ‘Hey, I recognize you. I love you. I think you’re important,’” said Kiebler.
Moms can often feel underappreciated, and after all of the hard work they put into their families, they deserve to have time for themselves. For Mother’s Day, students gave their mom extra hugs, flowers and other kind gestures to fully appreciate them on their special day.
