Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the many roles mothers play, and for the staffulty members who are also moms, this day is filled with appreciation and gratitude. Many mothers at NDB have their own unique traditions and memorable memories that highlight the significance of this holiday.
For many moms, the most thoughtful and heartwarming gifts are those made with love, such as handwritten cards, drawings or crafts, which reflect their children’s deep appreciation for them. These simple gestures hold lasting meaning, embodying the essence of this holiday.
“… The smallest and the simplest things my kids offered to me meant the most. And, usually, school is involved, and it is activities that the teachers had them do, and my sons were very happy to give them to me,” said French teacher Emilie Alba.
Each year brings new memories to cherish, creating moments that will be reminisced on for years to come. These special memories serve as lasting reminders of the moments that matter the most, emphasizing the importance of love and gratitude.
“… My daughter … was born in April … So, I was able to celebrate Mother’s Day a month after I had my daughter, and my husband gifted me with this cute little gold pendant that said, ‘Mom’ with diamonds … It’s just such a beautiful symbol of … motherhood, and I’m grateful that God has blessed us,” shared English teacher Esthermaria Martin.
Motherhood also brings many worthwhile experiences, making a person’s years as a mother incredibly meaningful. Over time, many moms can gain new perspectives and a deeper appreciation for life as they watch their children grow and become the people they are meant to be.
“[My favorite thing about being a mom is] my kids: Seeing them, seeing the people they’ve become. That’s more reward[ing] than anything else. Just seeing what they do with their lives, how they live their lives. That’s been the greatest gift for me,” shared Science Department Chair, Dr. Elizabeth Hegarty.
For many teachers who are also moms, motherhood brings new views, allowing them to understand and connect with their students in a more personal way. They can gain a deeper understanding and awareness of how students may be feeling, allowing them to approach teaching with more compassion and support.
“I think being a mom is really helpful [at NDB] … I kind of see, at home, … what [students] are going through, so I think it sometimes helps me relate better … I think it makes me a better mom, too, because I think it gives me perspective on what my kids are going through, and I’m just really grateful,” said Spanish teacher Kathryn Blanchard.
From meaningful moments to unforgettable gifts, the way Mother’s Day is celebrated among NDB’s staffulty reflects the diverse ways these moms cherish the day and their important roles in their families and the school community. Through this holiday, the invaluable and significant contributions mothers make at home and in the classroom are highlighted.
