The Capstone project is a highlight of junior year, giving students the opportunity to explore a captivating topic and showcase their research and creativity. This year, juniors had the opportunity to present their projects to many parents and staffulty members, highlighting their hard work and dedication.
Many juniors chose topics that highlighted real-world issues and used their projects to advocate for change and raise awareness. Students were able to research and act on important social justice issues that connected to them on a personal level, and then incorporate these findings into presentations that reflected their passion. They were not only able to deepen their own understanding on crucial topics, but were also able to inspire others.
Junior Allison Yue stated, “Our Capstone project is about biases in healthcare, and my group chose it because we think that there’s a lot of inequalities in healthcare, and not everyone receives the same quality of care.”
As next year’s juniors embark on their own journey, they can look at the experiences of this year’s students for guidance. Many learned the importance of being flexible, as many projects’ goals can often shift in unexpected ways.
Junior Reece Hamilton stated, “My advice for [students] is to keep an open mind. We changed our project, and so…it was never set from the beginning. So you can’t go in thinking, “Oh, we’re going to do this,” because it may change just because there’s so many different social justice issues to talk about.”
Overall, the Capstone project not only showcases the juniors’ hard work but also serves as an exciting preview for underclassmen, inspiring them for their future capstone experiences. This year’s juniors demonstrated passion and commitment to meaningful change throughout all of their projects, emphasizing the importance of this year-long journey.
