March is Women’s History Month, a time dedicated to honoring women’s achievements, contributions and resilience throughout history. Across the country, people use this month to reflect on the progress made in the fight for gender equality, while acknowledging the remaining challenges. At NDB, students and staffulty come together to recognize and celebrate the impact of women, both past and present, through various activities and events.
One of the groups leading this effort is the Coalition for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB), which ensures Women’s History Month is recognized inclusively and meaningfully. Vice President Claire Nguyen shared some initiatives the group is organizing this year.
“The Coalition for DEIB is a leadership board at NDB, and we actively contribute to Women’s History Month by making sure the celebration is both meaningful and inclusive,” shared Nguyen. “One of the ways we do this is by putting up a bulletin board that highlights women role models, their achievements and the impact they’ve had.”
Beyond this visual display, NDB encourages students and staffulty to learn about the women who have shaped history, whether through classroom discussions, special projects or independent exploration. From activists and scientists to artists and athletes, Women’s History Month is a chance to recognize the impact of women in all areas of society.
Nguyen also emphasized the importance of celebrating this month to look back at history to uplift women today.
“Celebrating it isn’t just about looking back. It’s about making sure those stories are told, uplifting women today and pushing for a future where equality isn’t just an idea, but a reality,” she stated.
Other groups at NDB are also trying to promote similar messages.
“We are trying to communicate the value of being a woman and how we can empower those around us, especially because we’re at an all-girls school, to overcome challenges, whether it’s … the workforce or in sports or just in daily life,” said Intersectional Feminism Club Co-President Sophia DeHaaff.
By amplifying the stories and voices of women, NDB continues to foster a culture of advocacy, education and empowerment for a more equitable future. Let’s hear from NDB staffulty and what honoring Women’s History Month means to them.

Debbie Anderson ‘85: Director of Admissions
“We are an all-girls community, and we support each other and lift each other up. It’s important to celebrate women in history who paved the way… so we can get inspired and inspire change in our communities and elsewhere,” shared Anderson.
Dr. Anna Gavidia: World Languages Department Chair
“Women’s History Month is important to me because it highlights our contributions to society. It’s important but, at the same time, it’s sad that we need a Women’s History Month, because we don’t seem to have a month for men,” stated Gavidia.

Espie Flores: School Counselor
“I think it’s important to recognize how far women have come … Thinking about all the things women have done before is important, especially in our political climate. We don’t want to go back — We want to move forward and grow,” said Flores.
