From March 7 to the 8, the NDB’s Dads club hosted its second annual father-daughter ski trip in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
Bobby Thompson, co-president of the Dads club and one of the people in charge of organizing this event, was inspired to plan this trip through his daughter, Frankie Thompson, 26′, who went on an eighth-grade ski trip at Crocker Middle School. To plan this trip, Thompson scheduled a room block at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa, and Casino located in Incline Village and communicated with Diamond Peak to ensure the group received discounted lift tickets.
The trip started with tigers and their fathers having dinner at eight o’clock on Friday at The Cutthroat Saloon located inside the hotel.
On Saturday morning, some students met up at the top of Crystal Express, a run that is known for its exquisite view of Lake Tahoe, before going their separate ways on the mountain until meeting up for lunch at the lodge on Diamond Peak. While the trip officially ended at four pm, some stayed an extra night and skied on Sunday.
All students and their dads are recommended to come regardless of skill level, and this trip even served as some people’s first time skiing. And Nikki Guinasso expressed, “My favorite part of the trip has been learning to ski with my dad.”
Members of the trip expressed their desire to come back next year, with Craig Guinasso, a member of the Dads club, stating, “Everyone should come. It is kind of sad to think about the parents that this is their senior year.”
Thompson described the importance of this event: “I think it’s just a fun way to get outside with your daughter. Spend some time in the great outdoor skiing. I think a lot of people that come on the trip, they love skiing to begin with, so it’s just wholesome family time.”
The number of individuals has grown from last year, with a total of 50 people signed up, but Thompson is looking to grow the program even further by inviting Serra students to attend the trip next year. This trip is a great way for students to bond with their dads while getting some fresh air.
