At NDB, students utilize Google on a daily basis, from Gdocs, to search queries and everything in between, many find the technology useful in a high school setting.
Many students choose to use Google as a method for creating collaborative presentations for classes. One of the most popular features is the version history tool, which can show which users were working on projects during certain times. Anyone can access this tool making it useful and accessible to check in on a partner’s work during a project.
Google’s tools also include its successful search engine which can help students access websites such as Schoology and PowerSchool.
Besides checking grades and submitting work, students can take advantage of these websites by accessing notes during class. Junior Cherie Gilbert finds this method works best in her Algebra II class as she can listen to her teacher explain the notes while following along on her computer.
Furthermore, various students find that Google can be a great method for planning schedules and staying organized throughout the duration of the school year.
Junior Maria Reyes is one of the many students who utilize Google Docs; however, she utilizes the technology further by creating columns for various assignments.
“[It] keeps me organized and it helps me remember what I have to do throughout the week,” said Reyes.
She believes that Google is a great alternative to written lists as it provides easy access to her tasks.
“I have my phone. I can just pull it up right now. And it’s also…available offline. So it’s like, you can access it at any time,” added Reyes.
Apart from planning out schedules, Reyes also finds the technology to be extremely helpful for finding outside opportunities such as internships, which many NDB students have begun the search for.
Similarly, Freshman Aurielle Deetz-Rodriguez finds Google’s services to be beneficial when researching essays and projects.
“Without Google, most homework assignments would be on paper and it would be a lot harder to do research,” said Deetz-Rodriguez.
Administrators and teachers such as Science Teacher and Educational Technology Specialist Rebecca Girard utilize Google’s services for classes.
“I love the Google Drive assignments, connecting that into Schoology, because it creates a document for the students and shares it automatically. [It also] allows me to see as they’re [the students] working and provide feedback” shared Girard.
Aside from the simplicity of creating assignments, Girard also finds Google Drawing to be a useful tool when creating visuals.
She also recommends her students explore Google Scholar and Google Keep, which can make researching and organizing easier.
