Raising Canes has just recently opened a brand new restaurant location in Colma, CA, one of the only locations in the Bay Area, and has garnered quite a bit of attention. So the question stands; does this new opening hold up to the hype about Raising Cane’s?
Raising Canes is a popular fast-food restaurant chain that serves fried chicken, crinkle-cut french fries, Texas toast, and coleslaw. The chain is mainly known for its small menu and its famous “Cane’s Sauce”, and it has garnered quite a bit of popularity among its teenage audience.
Something unique about this location that sets it apart from other restaurants in the area is the opening hours. This Canes stays open until 2:00 am on weekdays and 3:30 am on weeknights. This late closure boosts popularity, especially with younger crowds who are more inclined to order food late on a whim.
The most popular items to order are the Box Combo, which includes four chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Cane’s sauce, Texas Toast, and coleslaw, or the Three Finger Combo, which includes three chicken fingers, Texas Toast, fries, a fountain drink, and of course; Cane’s Sauce.
Chicken Fingers: As the main dish that the restaurant serves, Canes prides itself on its chicken quality and taste. The chicken was well breaded and crispy, cooked perfectly, but lacked flavor and was seriously underseasoned. Dipping it in the signature Cane’s sauce does make it much better.
Fries: The fries from Canes have many mixed reviews. They are decent, with a crispy exterior and fun crinkle shape. However, they lack any flavor that would make them stand out among competitors’ fries. While they are not bad by any means, they are mediocre compared to other restaurants.
Texas Toast: Raising Canes is famous for its Texas Toast, as it is unique and delicious. With a perfect balance of buttery crust and fluffy bread, it is a staple that is a must-try, and in the author’s opinion the best thing on the menu.
Canes Sauce: Canes sauce is what makes this fast food chain stand apart from any other fried chicken restaurant. Peppery and flavorful; the sauce perfectly complements every item on the menu.
Cole Slaw: The coleslaw is served only with the Box combo, and is a fresh vegetable addition to a high-carb plate. While crunchy and refreshing, the coleslaw is pretty tasteless and in the author’s opinion, not worth ordering.
Drinks: Raising Canes sells the standard soft drinks, but they also offer sweet tea and lemonade which are unique to the restaurant. The lemonade is both sour and fruity and was dyed green for Saint Patrick’s Day which gave the generally boring beverage an exciting feel. The sweet tea was cool and nostalgic, tasting like a very traditional sweet tea one can make at home, but could be made even sweeter for the perfect sip.
Overall, Raising Canes is a great experience for a dinner with family or friends, and a perfect go-to spot for a weeknight meal or a weekend treat.
