At NDB, there are several student leadership boards to get involved with. One of the newer boards, formed only two years ago, is the Marketing and Communications Board (MarComm). It often works behind the scenes, taking photos and videos, designing social media posts and always capturing the moment around campus.
Seniors Genevieve Land and Claire McCoy collaborate with juniors Kylie Fernandez and Rebecca Welte during weekly board meetings advised by Communications and Marketing Manager Cat Adamis. They typically share ideas for NDB’s social media accounts and schedule which school events to attend in order to generate content. “My favorite part of [MarComm] is the creative freedom,” said Land. “Being on the board has definitely helped me prepare for college, and I think it definitely solidified that I wanted to go into marketing.”
Out of all the leadership boards on campus, MarComm offers a variety of opportunities to get involved in what could be a future career.
“It’s definitely helped show me what it’s going to be like in the real world and [has given me] real life experiences,” added Land. “It’s such a fun and creative way to meet new people on campus and get involved in different activities. We always need more ideas, thoughts, opinions and people being involved.”
MarComm has a great creative direction, often pulling from students’ ideas to appeal to a wider audience. The social media pages tend to appeal to prospective students and intend to showcase what NDB has to offer to seventh and eighth graders interested in attending. The board is always coming up with new ideas and keeping up with recent social media trends.
“[MarComm] was created to give students a voice to our social media channels,” Adamis said. “I feel like students are way more with it, in terms of the trends. Our students have such great ideas of how we could showcase the school and things that I don’t even think about. It’s been super helpful to have their eye and perspective on it.”
MarComm is the perfect way to experience how the marketing world works and really gives an inside look on how a future in marketing could look.
