The holiday season can be particularly challenging for families due to the colder temperatures and emotional strain due to worries over purchasing gifts. So, the true festive spirit includes giving back to one’s community. Here are three organizations where students can volunteer.
Coastside Hope is a non-profit organization, located in Half Moon Bay, devoted to serving the San Mateo County coastside. It has an adopt-a-family program each year, which helps low-income households during the Christmas season. People can gift toys, clothes, food and other items that these families may need for a wonderful holiday.
The Family Giving Tree holds a special Holiday Wish Drive for children, adults, and seniors, where people can donate and spread joy to those in need. This organization serves over 75,000 Bay Area children and individuals, and support is always encouraged.
The Samaritan House is a non-profit organization, located in North Central San Mateo, dedicated to fighting poverty. Volunteers can package and distribute food, deliver meals or simply donate through their website. They also coordinate with various schools, agencies and programs, so that individuals interested in arranging one can do so.
