With finals coming up, stress is in the air. Every year, students face the pressure of final exams while balancing multiple subjects and responsibilities. There are many valuable tips and resources to help manage this stressful period.
Effective time management is essential for success. This can involve breaking tasks into smaller, manageable chunks and setting realistic daily goals. It may also be helpful to utilize tools like planners, calendars, or time-management apps to keep track of progress and deadlines. Additionally, one way to ensure productivity is to prioritize tasks based on importance and difficulty to ensure efficient use of study time.
NDB school counselor Esperanza Flores talks about the best way to manage time.
“I think for students, it would be like creating study schedules. So what are times that you know that you can focus on? For example, taking 45 minutes to study, then maybe like a 10-minute break and then switching to another subject so that way you establish a routine”.
Creating a study schedule that covers two weeks to a month can help. To create the study schedule one can list all subjects and topics to cover and allocate specific times for each subject. Prioritize challenging subjects and including time for revision and practice exams is also essential to a optimal study schedule. However, it is important to remmber the importance of flexibility and adjusting the schedule as needed. Active learning techniques such as summarizing information, teaching someone else, or creating flashcards are also a good study method
Flores states, “For example, for math, practice like core formulas or solving problems, history, maybe thinking about the major events, timelines, key figures, and practice active recall. So flashcards, quizzes, I would even practice talking to family members, so that way you’re basically [restating] what you’re learning.”
Finding a quiet study space and taking regular breaks are crucial when it comes to studying. Regular breaks can prevent burnout and help one stay fresh. Staying healthy by getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, and staying hydrated is also very important.
Following these tips and utilizing available resources, such as embracing good time management, creating effective study schedules, finding the right study environment, and practicing self-care, can make a significant difference when navigating the challenges of finals and allow one to do so with confidence.
