Black Friday this year will occur on Friday, November 29, the day after Thanksgiving. With the holiday less than a month away, people all over the country are starting to think about which Black Friday sales they will want to take advantage of, especially as it is stated that sales this year will be the best deals anyone has ever seen on electronics in all shapes and sizes.
Black Friday always takes place the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States, marking the start of the Christmas shopping season. Many stores offer very highly promoted sales at large discounted prices. Many of these stores open very early, sometimes even as early as midnight. Some count their sales up until Monday, which is called “Cyber Monday,” or they stay open for the week which is known as “Cyber Week.”
Online shopping has expanded the traditional one-day Friday shopping frenzy into a broader holiday shopping season, diluting the focus on black Friday and expanding its economic impact.
Many local stores are closed on the day of Thanksgiving but then open at very early hours for Black Friday. For Amazon, Black Friday will begin on November 29 and continue up until December 2. Black Friday is known as the biggest sale of the year and many people take advantage of that weekend to do all their Christmas shopping.
“Yeah, I shop in person during black Friday because I live by the mall so it’s more convenient for me and I like the experience of being able to try things on and pick my clothes. It’s fulfilling for me to buy clothes with my own money that are on sale,” said junior Lizzie Johnson.
Johnson stated that she finds shopping in person during Black Friday more convenient because you can try on the clothes, look for more sizes and make sure the clothing fits before you purchase it.
Many people cannot wait for November 29 and are counting down the days until they can go to their favorite mall and spend money on great deals.
