The Junior Ring ceremony occurred in the Moore pavilion on Sunday, November 17, at 10:30 a.m. It is an important school tradition that celebrates juniors’ transition to their final high school years. This event symbolizes the Juniors’ growth throughout the year and all of their achievements. It also represents class unity and the bonds formed between students.
Each Junior finds a ring of their choice that symbolizes the student’s year so far and resembles all the memories they have made and the ones to come. A ring can be purchased through the school’s recommendation website or different jewelry websites from students’ recommendations. Good places to buy rings for this event could be Kendra Scott, Gorgana, QVC, herffjones, Shane Co, Tiffany & co(etc).
Kate Blanchard, one of the junior class coordinators, discusses how much preparation went into the ring ceremony. “A lot of preparation goes into this event..but it’s been going on for a long time so we have a framework that we kind of use every year so the ceremony is relatively similar.” Blanchard also describes the ceremony’s purpose, stating, “The ceremony is a ritual that every Notre Dame junior gets to go through, and it a right of passage to becoming upperclassmen here at Notre Dame”.
During this ceremony, Natalia Cuneo, Junior Year Student Council president, delivered a speech. She shared her journey throughout Notre Dame and reflected that one key factor of going throughout high school is sticking together as a class and always supporting one another.
Jonathan Tomzcak, another junior class coordinator, discusses what this event means for him and the community, “It’s an opportunity for the junior class to have a moment that is exclusively theirs..to say that this is eighteen months till graduation.”
This annual event reflects the student’s progress throughout their high school experiences so far and the months they have to come until graduation. The ring is a physical symbol that students can look back at many years ahead and always remember their junior ring ceremony at Notre Dame.
