The annual game of Notre Dame: Powder Puff is back. It’s very highly anticipated by students each year. Last year the Blue and green team consisting of the sophomores and seniors won, so this year the purple and red team (the new seniors and sophomores) will be eager to win.
This game needs lots of preparation in a short amount of time. Preparing for this game involves creating positions, plays, and even strong cheers to keep the audience engaged. The coaches help guide the team and help players understand all the rules before starting the game.
The teams are divided into the sister’s classes, with the seniors and sophomores playing for the Red and purple teams and the freshman and juniors playing for the Blue and Green teams.
Finley Wilke-Hiland, the blue and green team quarterback, performed brilliantly throughout the game and shared her thoughts before they started their match.
When asked about her thoughts on the upcoming match she stated, “Yes I am excited [for the game]. I played Powderpuff last year and it was really fun and I can’t wait to do it again.” When asked how well she thinks her team is gonna perform she states, “Hopefully good, I don’t know though. we will beat the other team though.” She had confidence in her team and guessed correctly as the blue and green team executed their offensive plays wonderfully having her as their quarterback.
NDB staff also plays a huge role in this game. The blue and green team this year is coached by Mr.Juul and the red and purple team is coached by Coach Will. Both of these coaches did a great job guiding their teams into the match. They rotated all their players in and gave shared playing time for all players.
The referees for the game included Mr. G, Mrs. Connolly, and Mrs. Flores. They worked hard all game to make important calls and were very attentive throughout the game. They performed well and executed their job amazingly.
Mr. Juul, the coach for the blue and green team shared his thoughts on how the outcome of the game went right after the match.
“Lots of enthusiasm, intensity, our offense was offensive, our defense was defensive and everything went according to plan,” Juul stated.
When asked what the key factor of winning was he answered with. “Gia Rivera played like Mega Tron, Sofia Castricone with a cannon, a lot of contributing parts, lots of people coming together as one team and defense was a brick wall.” Juul added, “We got the momentum early in the game and that’s what carried us.”
Juul had a fantastic time coaching his team and was even happier when his team led him to a great victory. He was super proud of all his players and was shocked by the way they performed.
Will Evans coach for the sophomore senior team also known as the red and purple team had high expectations for the game but unfortunately, the score did not lead up.
When asked how the game was he stated sarcastically, “It went amazing. We crushed it. We won. I loved being the winning coach.” Evans also added sarcastically, “The amount of catches, runs, and yardage that my team racked up was just amazing.” said Evans
While his team did not end up racking up any points on the scoreboard, Coach Will Evans was still dearly proud of his players.
ASB Members Hailey Degnan and Nina Wall did a great job of keeping the audience entertained with their commentary throughout the game. They kept their comments light and thorough in a couple of jokes as well. ASB member Bella Svanberg handled the music and got many song recommendations from the crowd keeping them entertained.
Another aspect of the game was the annual color run at the end. Student Council members of all grades were asked to handle the color run. They each got class colors and had the crowd run through the front lawn which resulted in many students covered in colors.
Overall, this day was filled with many new memories for the students including the guest speaker, color run, and powderpuff. Our community had an amazing day and the Blue and Green team took the win once again.
