The 2024-2025 Notre Dame JV soccer season is off to a promising start. The team’s focus on building unity, improving individual skills, and creating a supportive atmosphere has already made a significant impact. With practices geared towards both technical development and strong collaboration, the players are laying the groundwork for what promises to be a rewarding and competitive season.
Junior Anna Street reflects on the team’s energy and the sense of camaraderie that has shaped the first weeks of practice.
“The energy of the team this season has been competitive but really supportive and fun, especially as tryouts have happened,” says Street. “As the season goes on, we will definitely face some really hard teams and there will be a lot of challenges along the way, but what I think is really important is staying together as a team and supporting one another no matter what.”
That focus on teamwork and mutual support is a priority for every player. Even though each individual player has specific goals for improvement, the overall success of the team is always the driving force. Freshman Zoe Pon believes that the team’s smaller roster will foster even closer connections among players.
“Since we are short on a lot of girls, I think that it will make us become closer and we will manage to make this team work with each other’s support and communication,” Pon explains.
For freshman Kyla Fong, who is returning to soccer after a break, the team’s dynamic is what stands out most.
“I think our team spirit is very upbeat, and I can feel that we will become a close team,” shares Fong.
The feeling of unity is also shared by junior Jeanne Debuc, who values the deep sense of connection that has formed across both JV and varsity teams.
“What makes the soccer team special is the bond all the players have with each other,” says Debuc. “Everyone on both JV and varsity are like a family, and it’s so nice to be able to play with the people I love.”
While developing teamwork remains a central focus, individual growth is still at the heart of the team’s mission. As Debuc shares, the first few weeks of practice have allowed her to refine her skills while also building new relationships with teammates.
“The first few weeks of practice have been super fun,” Debuc reflects. “Learning the new girls on JV and getting to know the varsity girls better have been great. We give it our all at practices, and I’ve felt myself improve in just two short weeks.”
With such a supportive atmosphere already in place, the team is well-positioned for success. As they continue to grow both individually and as a unit, the players are setting the stage for a season full of potential.
