The evolution of Disney’s Halloween specials and movies started with “Disney’s Halloween Treat” in 1982, followed by the iconic “Hocus Pocus” in 1993 and later evolved into big budget spooky specials such as “Haunted Mansion” in 2023 and even producing a second “Hocus Pocus” in 2022. Throughout the years, Disney has expanded their company and been able to produce even more specials that incorporate important themes and messages, frequently including beloved characters such as the Disney Princesses and their mascot, Mickey Mouse.

A great example of this is “I put a spell on you” from “Hocus Pocus,” which has become a popular tune that a lot of people love. Disney nostalgia is unique in the sense that it is very generational. Adults that grew up on Disney films and have fond memories with those films will frequently show their children them and pass on the memories. “Not sure about Halloween, but [maybe] the mickey mouse specials … those [have] very Halloween vibes. I liked “Alice in Wonderland” too, I know it’s not really like Halloween, but it’s very spooky,” said junior Lara Hollblad-Fadiman when listing her favorite Halloween specials. “I think that their community is younger kids so if it’s too Halloween-y, it could be too scary for them, but I definitely think they incorporate it as best they can. [Disney] does a great job in having a fun, not-to-scary Halloween vibe.”
