This athletics season, many NDB students participated in fall sports, including volleyball, water polo, golf, flag football, tennis, and cross country, with many NDB students participating. Since the season started, the Tigers have been practicing after school to show their best performance and have good teamwork. As the fall season has kicked off, many sports made their achievements. Fall sports teams have been working hard to create many significant accomplishments.
In the pool, Varsity Water Polo goalie Sam Gould was nominated for her saves by the San Jose Mercury News for their Bay Area Athlete of the Week. She made 20 saves during a match against Burlingame HS on October 3.
On the field, flag football kicked off its second season. The varsity’s first win was on October 2 against Mercy B, which ended with an impressive score of 12-0.
In addition, golf had its first league win against Sacred Heart Prep on October 9, while the cross country teams went to West Bay Athletic League #1, with the JV finishing in 6th and the varsity finishing in 7th.
Moving on to the court, the freshman and JV volleyball team’s first game secured their first win of the season against Harker HS on September 19. Just two days after, junior and Varsity Volleyball Captain Gia Rivera earned the 1,000th kill of her NDB career in a match against San Mateo HS on September 21.
“[I feel] super accomplished. I mean, it’s a great thing, and it was nice to have my team supporting me through the whole thing,” said Rivera “I think my determination made this possible. I always try to be the best player I can be personally … and I wanted to reach 1,000 by the end of my senior year, and now that I’ve reached it, I wanna reach something else.”
In addition, the JV tennis team had its first victory against Mills HS, 5-0, on September 25. Varsity Tennis went undefeated at its tournament on October 5.
“I felt good. It was pretty hot that day, but I’m proud of all my teammates for pulling through and playing a great match. We did very [well], and I’m just very proud of everyone,” said Varsity Tennis Captain Vicky Wang. “I just want to have like a great season for me. It’s not about [the] winning or losing but the mindset. This is my last season, and I’m just looking forward to having a great rest of the season.”
Students have been working hard to achieve the best performance and excel in sports, from the court to the field. Fans, including parents and staffulty, hope for the best for athletes participating in any fall sport as they continue to practice and grow as a team. As the postseason competition is just around the corner, teams hope to keep up the momentum and put themselves in a position to make more achievements.
