At NDB, teachers often find more than a job—they find a community. For many, NDB has become a place where they grow both personally and professionally. But what draws these educators to this private institution, and why do they stay?
One of the reasons teachers are drawn to NDB is the school’s mission, which emphasizes empowering young women to become confident, thoughtful leaders.
[The mission of the school] resonates very well with my personal values,” Shares Isabelle Haithcox, who teaches Forensics as well as AP Chem. “The hallmarks of the sisters, the focus on social justice, all of that is very important to me.”
Beyond alignment with the school’s values, teachers often speak of the strong sense of community at NDB. The supportive environment created by both staff and students fosters meaningful connections beyond the classroom.
“Throughout my career, I was searching for a school and teaching community that felt like ‘home,’” expresses English teacher Esthemaria Martin, “and I found that at NDB”.
Another key reason teachers remain at NDB is the opportunity for professional growth. The school not only encourages but actively supports educators in developing their skills through training and collaborative initiatives.
“[Working at NDB has helped with] just confidence in general” States math teacher, Matthew Juul.
Of course, to many, the most rewarding part of teaching at NDB is the opportunity to impact student’s lives and witness how their students approach life.
“The students are bright,” Explains Peggy Brady, who has had many positions at NDB over the years, including being an English teacher, and working in administration, publication and development. “They’re bright, motivated, hard-working, but most of all, they’re kind”.
Through shared values, professional growth, and meaningful connections, it is clear that NDB is a home for those who teach and inspire its students, as well as a community where everyone is empowered to thrive.
