The MLB postseason began on October 1st with twelve teams fighting to get the World Series title. In the National League, the Phillies, Mets, Brewers, Braves, Padres, and Dodgers were able to make the postseason, and in the American League, the Tigers, Astros, Guardians, Royals, Orioles, and Yankees made the postseason as well. Unfortunately, Bay Area home teams San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics were unable to make it to the postseason this year, however, hopes are high that things change for the next season.
Many students and staffulty alike are Giants fans at NDB, including math teacher Mr. Juul. “[My favorite team is] The Giants, but when I was a kid it was the Cleveland Guardians.” Had the Giants been in the Wild Card series, they would have faced either the San Diego Padres or the Atlanta Braves, both outstanding teams. The San Diego Padres won the Wild Card and faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Divisional Series. “[I think] it’d be the Los Angeles Dodgers,” says Juul, talking about his predictions for the World Series. “But oddly enough I wouldn’t count the Cleveland Guardians out.”
On the flip side, there are still some loyal Los Angeles fans at NDB, a rival to the Giants. “This is going to be controversial, but I really like the Dodgers,” says NDB junior Maddie Mitchell. “I hope the Dodgers [win], but you never know.” The Dodgers ended up winning the NLDS in five games, which was a monumental victory for the team as they have had many struggles in the playoffs, especially against the Padres.
On October 13th, the National League Championship Series began with the Dodgers facing off against the Mets. The Dodgers won in six games, meaning they will be facing the Yankees in the World Series this year. They have not played each other since 1981, but have seen each other eleven times before. It will be a very exciting match-up, with the first game on October 25th.
