Visual and Performing Arts teacher, Martha Anne Kuntz, is known for her exciting classes, out-of-the-box spirit week costumes, and engaging class art projects, making her someone more students should get to know.
In an interview with Kuntz, she was asked many questions students were curious about, one being how she chooses her project for the beginning of the year.
She said, “It depends on the class…if I’m teaching an introductory course, I almost think of it chronologically. I try to think about simple to complex. I want students to think creatively, so I don’t want them to do a boring assignment, so I try to think of ways that I can get a student to think about elements and principles by combining ideas.”
When asked what this year’s first project was about, she answered, “It was painting a rock and placing it somewhere…We all saw it during the pandemic, but I wanted to see how Sculpture I students who didn’t know that much about sculpture or art might consider taking a rock and making it into a work of art but then giving it meaning by placing it someplace on campus. People might notice it as an act of kindness.”
She has an interesting story about how she got into art, saying she inherited her talent from her mother and grandfather. She was always told she was very good at art, and while doing advertising in San Francisco, she realized she was really interested in it.
Since then, one thing has led to another, and now she is constantly bringing light to the NDB art community and our community as a whole.
NDB hopes she continues spreading her love for creativity in artistic ways throughout this school.
