The Grammys is the highly anticipated award show showcasing the world’s best artists, and this year, the competition is astounding. Every year the world watches and cheers as their favorite singer/songwriters attend. This year will be the 67 annual Grammys. Arguably the most anticipated category is “Album of The Year,” and every year the top eight artists compete for the award.
This year, the lineup is highly competitive. Although the 2025 nominees for Album of the Year do not get officially announced until November 8, the public has made their choices for the nominees. The top artists competing this year are Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Beyonce, Zach Bryan, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappel Roan and Charli XCX. Even though the award will not be given for months, the contestants are strong and have already sparked interest among the public.
The Grammys are a huge part of pop culture and are heavily talked about each year. There has been speculation of the Grammys being rigged for a long period of time. Speculation of this goes back to the 1970s, however the accusations of inequity at this time was more about genre representation rather than the actual awards. In the 90s the world saw more vocal complaints about the actual award and voting system being rigged and in the early 2000s there was criticism of a lack of diversity. Now, in the 2010-2020s there is speculation of favoritism.
“I watch the grammys occasionally. Usually I just watch a few clips but never the full thing. I think that sometimes they could be rigged, but I also could just be biased for my favorite artists,” said sophomore Mika Cary. “My favorite album out of the list is either Billie Eilish or Sabrina Carpenter’s because they are both really catchy and the ones that I listen to the most. I believe that Billie Eilish will win because I’ve heard generally of more people liking her music and I’ve also heard about how her music helps people and It’s just very widely known.”
