Art is displayed all around the NDB campus, mostly created by Visual and Performing Arts students from prior years. The displays are a fun way to express students’ passions and interests, as many find art classes to be a way to relieve stress and relax during their busy school days.
One of the things NDB is known for is its extravagant art projects, ranging from sculpture to digital art. From Art 1 to AP Art Studio classes, students can explore different artistic opportunities and express themselves in various ways.
“[The projects I choose] change … every year,” said Art, Photography and Graphic Design Teacher Mark Thiesen. “The ones that I enjoy are the ones that the students enjoy. So last year, the photography students really enjoyed cyanotype, so I started the year with cyanotype.”
For this school year, the Video Production class will produce many projects, from recreating a movie scene to making their own music video, and Photography students will learn to use Photoshop and to create unique collages.
“I am currently working on my reading cards, and I think that was a really fun project. And, I am excited to do more stuff with watercolors and painting,” said sophomore Ava Moody, an Art II student.
Moody, along with other students who took art classes last year, previously learned to work with colored and non-colored pencils – Skills they hope to further develop.
There are many projects students will create this school year. From creating vibrant paintings to sculpting dresses, classes will be busy the entire year. The wide range of classes offered leads to a large variety of creative mediums, all of which showcase NDB’s creativity.
