On August 23, Sabrina Carpenter released her sixth studio album, “Short n’ Sweet.” It has only twelve songs, featuring the viral hits “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” “Espresso” was released on April 11 earlier this year, quickly hitting the charts. It went to number one for seven weeks on the UK’s official charts and peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. “Please Please Please” went number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, making it her first number one in her career. It also topped the UK’s official charts for five weeks. Both songs are still on the Billboard Hot 100 and have been moving around places for several weeks. Alongside the album, Carpenter released her third single “Taste” with a music video featuring actress Jenna Ortega.
The album itself is very pop-themed and takes a different direction than her past albums. It also flows together very well, and with its short length, is a very easy album to listen to. It has a very fun and young vibe to it, as Carpenter references past relationships and can easily relate to her listeners.
I enjoyed listening to the album and I thought it was well-written and produced. My favorite songs are “Taste” and “Juno,” both very upbeat songs that are fun to listen to. They remind me of songs I would listen to while getting ready for school in the morning. I did not think there were many negatives about this album except for the fact that the peppy beat in the background of her songs are very similar to each other, so it can get a little repetitive. However, she has a few songs like “Dumb & Poetic” that balance it out, as well as having twelve songs so it cannot be too tiresome.
Overall good reviews about the album and its hit songs continue to be a staple in 2024, with “Espresso” being named one of the Songs of The Summer by Billboard. “Short n’ Sweet” has continued to rise in popularity after hitting number one on the Billboard 200 chart and breaking records in many countries around the world.
