This past summer, many NDB students attended various concerts, most of which were held in the Bay Area.
Zach Bryan:
A highly anticipated night, many NDB students decided to kick off their summer break and celebrate the end of the 2023-2024 school year by attending the Zach Bryan concert. Bryan played at the Oakland Coliseum on May 31, which was his first stadium show and biggest crowd yet. The show opened with his song “Overtime,” which was a big hit for attendees, and the singer continued to play popular fan-favorite songs, including the live debut of a recent song “Pink Skies.” Bryan will be returning to Northern California on November 29 and 30 at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center, offering another opportunity for NDB students to see Bryan live.
Noah Kahan:
The “Stick Season” singer performed for two nights at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley on July 5 and 6. NDB students who are fans of the singer enjoyed hearing some of their favorite songs live, such as “Dial Drunk,” “Stick Season,” “You’re Gonna Go Far” and more. Though Kahan suffered a calf injury on the morning of the second show and was compelled to use a knee scooter for mobility, he managed to make it on stage and powered through, allowing the students to see a complete show.
“I like the fact that I got to camp outside because I got to see a lot of people, some from Notre Dame, which was fun, but he didn’t play my favorite song Paul Revere which was so sad!” said senior Jane Hipps.
Olivia Rodrigo:
Olivia Rodrigo, the singer-songwriter best known for her relatable lyrics and cultural impact, made her way to San Francisco’s Chase Center for two consecutive nights in early August. Tickets for the concerts were extremely hard to come by, as both shows sold out quickly in a matter of minutes. The lucky few NDB students who did manage to snag seats enjoyed a captivating performance filled with numerous outfit changes and dance performances. Attendees of the shows tended to wear sparkly shirts and dresses, as well as tank tops and t-shirts with lyrics and witty sayings on them and even recreations of some of Rodrigo’s own outfits.
Outside Lands:
The most anticipated event of the summer, numerous NDB students flocked to San Francisco’s Golden Gate park to enjoy three days of music, food and interactive experiences at Outside Lands. Every year, festival-goers enjoy this weekend in August as the perfect way to close off the summer. This year, the festival was held on August 9 through 11, and headliners like The Killers, Sabrina Carpenter and Chris Lake performed, along with other popular artists such as Chappell Roan, TV Girl, Renee Rapp and Post Malone. Guests could opt to purchase tickets to all three days of the event, or just a single-day pass. NDB students had the chance to see artists they love and spend time with friends before heading back to school.
Hipps also attended Outside Lands, which she enjoyed because “… there were so many people from all of the schools near here. I got to see all of my friends over the summer, and everyone was dressed up and just enjoying the music.”
Dom Dolla:
With its recent surge in popularity, house music has become a growing interest for members of the NDB community. One beloved artist-Dom Dolla-performed shows at the Stanford Frost Amphitheater on June 22 and 23. The DJ played a variety of hit songs, including “Saving Up,” “Miracle Maker” and “girl$.” Bay Area residents were especially excited to hear the artist’s song “San Frandisco.”
