During summer, some Tigers attended Outside Lands, an annual music festival held in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. This year, the three-day festival took place from August 9 to August 11, with headlining artists varying in genre. Pop phenomenon Sabrina Carpenter, rap sensation Post Malone, country star Sturgill Simpson and rock band The Killers were the main attractions. Both upper and lower-classmen got to see these headliners as well as many other artists. Chappell Roan, one of those artists, blew up TikTok due to her performance. Students shared similar yet different experiences and opinions on the concerts.
“I really liked, like being able to be in the same place, but see so many, like different artists,” said freshman Audrey Cooper, who attended with one of her friends. Cooper stated that she loved being a part of the vibrant atmosphere and found herself never being overwhelmed, despite this being her first attendance.
Out of all of the performers, Sabrina Carpenter’s performance stood out to her, highlighting the use of props and dancers. Her appreciation for this factor led her to rate her experience and eight out of ten, with points being deducted only due to cold weather.
Senior Mia Moussa also attended Outside Lands as her first music festival, but she did not attend all three days. She bought a ticket to the festival primarily to see Chappell Roan and ultimately waited five hours to watch her perform. Moussa’s passion for music deepened after seeing Roan, despite her emotional outburst towards fans. When Moussa witnessed Chappell Roan calling out her fans in VIP for not doing her viral “HOT TO GO” dance, she thought it was incredibly hilarious and completely understood where Roan was coming from.
“I think to just like dress comfortable and I was in like a skirt and like a top, I was like freezing,” said Moussa.
Despite the cold weather and the long wait, Moussa rated her experience a ten out of ten, and both students would definitely recommend this festival to others.
