As the Freshmen Jaguars settle into their first year of high school, they have the opportunity to support their school by being part of the student council.
This semester, there were many students, all ready to embrace the possibility of helping NDB. Each candidate’s poster showed enthusiasm for different offices. Each created various catchy slogans, some with pictures of them or with friends. They also formed well-thought-out speeches that stated aspirations and ways to enhance NDB as well as their own grade.
One particular freshman, Sammi Barrett, was very spirited and eager to run for a position. She explained how she was a part of the student council for two years at her previous school and had a positive experience helping her community. Sammi was also influenced by her relatives, as they also served on similar boards years ago and would be more than happy to live on her family tradition. Additionally, she shared a goal she would like to pursue that would help support her classmates as the year progressed, and hoped to be elected as the Vice President.
“A lot of people in my family who went to Notre Dame were extremely involved in student council, so I would love to be a part of it! I also want to take school spirit farther with my class, since there is already so much,” said Barrett.
This year, the class had some amazing candidates, but unfortunately, with every race, not everyone can win. Each contender had thoughtful speeches, unique slogans and eye-catching posters which all would have been a great fit. For the 2024-2025 school year, August Kelly is President with the Vice President being Sammie Barrett. The Secretary/Treasurer is Liz Brouder, Vanessa Gonzalez is the Athletic Director and Sophia Adao was elected Activities Director. The spirit director is Rylie McGlynn and the freshman Historian is Piper Venture. Hopefully, everyone lives up to their stated promises and can fulfill their responsibilities involved with the student council.
