On Tuesday, Sept. 9, the Associate Student Body (ASB) officers announced NDB’s first Homecoming dance, one of the most exciting events this fall. An immense amount of preparation went into creating this dance, including deciding upon a theme: Disco.
This year, Homecoming will occur on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Father Downey Garden. The attire for the event is similar to that of Winter Formal, meaning students and their guests will be wearing dresses and suits.
“I am very excited about Homecoming, especially as it will be the first one at Notre Dame this year. There is a lot of preparation we have to do for it and it should be really exciting, ” said ASB Communications Director Bella Svanberg.
Organizing the first Homecoming event came with its own set of challenges. The planning team faced numerous obstacles, such as determining a date for it to be held during the busy fall season. Despite this, their dedication and teamwork helped them rise to the challenge with the hopes of creating an amazing event.
“There were definitely some challenges trying to figure out when homecoming should be, especially considering some of the other events going on that week, but also figuring out how to coordinate where the dance will be at and who will be invited,” Svanberg said. “We just want to do as much as possible trying to coordinate students at Notre Dame.”
The event has taken two or three months to plan, and although they have been working on a tight budget, ASB’s arrangements are sure to offer an unforgettable experience with the decorations and ambiance the on-campus location is sure to provide. However, the main reason it is so highly anticipated is due to the fact that it is the first Homecoming dance in the 101 years NDB has been a school.
“This has been in the works for a while now. ASB decided they wanted to have a homecoming dance to honor our new flag football team, so they came up with the idea of having it and just made it happen,” said Director of Student Life Alisia Bergholm.
Each class is looking forward to the event and students are busily making preparations, including selecting outfits and inviting guests. The seniors are especially thrilled for the event as it will be the only Homecoming many of them will experience in their high school careers.
“I am definitely very excited. It was a shock because we did not expect it. We haven’t had it for three years, and I just assumed that it was something we were never going to have,” said senior Lily Henry. “So, it’s definitely exciting to have a third dance and have that experience senior year, especially since it is our senior season, especially for us. We always go to dances together. My friend group always gets together with some other people, our dates and everything. It will be fun, getting ready is always the most fun part.”
The Jaguars are also very excited, as they will be the first freshman class to experience four Homecoming dances.
“I’m excited to be part of the first [Homecoming]. I am excited to get ready with my friends and enjoy the dance!” said freshman Audrey Johnston.
With a fun disco theme and the hard work of ASB and the rest of the planning team, the night is sure to be fun for all in attendance. Students are excited, whether they are seniors looking forward to their last chance to attend a Homecoming event or freshmen experiencing it for their first time.
The excitement increases each day as the inaugural Homecoming approaches. This buildup will provide a memorable and cherished homecoming for the entire student body.
