NDB’s annual club fair will take place on Friday, Sept. 27 in the dining room. It is an opportunity for new clubs to start and for existing ones to recruit new members.
Sophomore Shanntal Amurao started the Badminton Club when she was a freshman.
“I enjoyed badminton during PE last year and, since we didn’t have a badminton team at school, I decided to start one with my friends,” explained Amurao.
Being able to start a club at NDB satisfies the student body’s diverse interests and helps the community bond.
The club fair is an excellent opportunity to recruit news members. For club presidents, this is a fun way to share common interests with people of all grade levels at NDB.
Club presidents make posters to encourage students and get them interested in their clubs. In addition, they give away free prizes or snacks as an incentive to sign up.
“For preparing for the club fair, make sure to pay attention to emails and announcements and talk to upperclassmen who recently had a club. Additionally, candies, stickers, and a nice big poster are helpful to attract more sign-ups,” said Amurao.
The Badminton Club made stickers, which got the attention of several students.
Many students, like Amurao, deepen their passions for various activities by encouraging others to participate as well. To create a club, a student can brainstorm an idea and have a small group of students who are also interested in it.
Clubs are approved and confirmed by Director of Student Life and Leadership Alisia Bergholm. There is a list of requirements that clubs must follow, including having a faculty moderator.
