On Monday, April 29, NDB’s senior class had the option to take time off from school for the annual senior holiday. The previous Friday was a day off for all grades, giving the qualifying seniors a four-day weekend in total. To take the day off, the student’s grades must have been above a D, otherwise, they were required to attend school for the whole day.
The reserved senior holiday serves as a monitored replacement for “senior ditch day” in which seniors would not show up to school without any official permission from the school. Instead, teachers are prepared for the empty classes and can plan they curriculum accordingly.
The long weekend presented multiple opportunities for seniors to celebrate their final month of being a Tiger. Activities some partook in included birthday celebrations, family time, pool parties and day trips to one of the many surrounding beaches.
“My friends and I went to Half Moon Bay to go to the beach, swim and boogie board,” said senior Kayla Messick. “I think the senior holiday is beneficial because it allows you to spend some much needed time with your classmates and friends outside of school…”
For most seniors, the holiday was used as a chance to relax with friends, while others used it to prepare for upcoming AP exams. Whether in study groups or social gatherings, seniors were appreciative for the brief break before the rushed milestones that leading up to graduation.
