Want to fund a summer wardrobe? Summer is on the way, and many teens want to buy brand-new clothes for this special season or just have some extra money in general. Unfortunately, money doesn’t grow on trees. Making money can be a challenging task for teenagers since jobs are time-consuming. However, there are many ways to earn extra money as a teen without having the burden of a scheduled job.
A great way to earn money is babysitting. No matter what, parents will always need babysitters, and many sitters get paid close to $20 an hour. Put up an ad on Nextdoor, make a Facebook post, or reach out to people who have young kids in the neighborhood. Pretty soon, people will be contacting and asking for a sitter. One major benefit of babysitting is that the hours are flexible. If a job doesn’t fit into their schedule on a certain day, the sitter can simply turn it down and wait for a job time that will work for them.
Babysitting kids is not the only sitter job that makes money fast. Pet sitting or dog sitting are both great options as well. For pet sitting, many owners would jump on the opportunity because hiring a teen in the neighborhood to watch their pet is cheaper than a daycare. Similarly, dogs need a lot of exercise, however many owners do not have the time to walk their dogs multiple times a day; having a teenager to do it for them instead is something many people would take advantage of. House sitting, which typically includes tasks such as watering plants and collecting mail may also be a part of the job description and is another great way to earn money without having the responsibility of a real job.
Tutor kids in the neighborhood. When babysitting for any kids, also mention tutoring service to the family. Use the same strategy of posting ads and reaching out to people so that many customers are informed of the services. Little kids look up to older kids, and having a teenage tutor is something many parents would want for their children.
Have a garage sale with friends and split the profits. Gather a group of friends and have each person bring old clothes, childhood toys, or any items to add to the pile. Then put posters around the neighborhood and wait for the customers to file in. On top of the garage sale, have a bake sale and tempt customers with delicious homemade treats. Many people would buy items at the garage sale, and then also a baked good as they leave.
Start an Etsy shop. There is an endless list of things to sell on Etsy. Whether it is handmade jewelry, candles, crochet items, or clothing, teens should create a shop and sell anything they know how to make that customers may be interested in. Etsy is a great opportunity to make money easily.
Be a referee for a kid’s sport. Most teens play sports. Whatever sport they play, they should be a referee in that sport for little kids’ games. Refereeing is a stressful job, but not when the level of play isn’t competitive. Ref 6-9 year old basketball games, soccer games, or any sport at all. This job pays well, and it is fun!
Teenagers have busy schedules and it is difficult to commit to a real job on top of the many activities they already do. Part-time and full-time jobs are not flexible. All of these alternatives to make money are on the teen’s hours, and they will not get in trouble if they say they can not show up. So save up some cash from these small jobs, and soon it will be time to go on a shopping spree!
