As students approach the end of the school year, they are diligently preparing for spring final exams before summer break starts and the freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors each have different attitudes approaching the stress of finals.
For the freshmen, they are wrapping up their first year of high school and are participating in finals for the second time at NDB.
“I expect spring finals will be a bit harder than winter finals because I have done harder work this semester than last semester,” said freshman Mikayla Cary.
The sophomores are taking this opportunity to develop healthy study habits to use in more challenging classes as upperclassmen.
“[I’m taking] five advanced classes this year,” said sophomore Maia Mejia-Young. “I feel a lot more prepared knowing how my past tests were, but also nervous because the end-of-year finals can be cumulative.”
Just a couple of weeks before finals, juniors concluded AP testing and are navigating the challenges of this quick turnaround.
“There’s definitely a lot more material on the tests [in] second semester,” said junior Virginia Fitzgerald. “Though it’s still nerve-racking, I definitely feel a lot more confident having gone through the process several times already.”
With the seniors concluding their very last year of high school and many already committing to college, several are experiencing the effects of senioritis.
“I used to get super anxious and spend all my time calculating what I need to get in order to keep an A,” said senior Mackenzie Fobes. “ Now, I [am] not fixated on my grades.”
After finals conclude, students can feel accomplished for their hard work and effort going into summer break.
