After a long season, the NDB Spirit Squad began the tryout process for the 2024-2025 season.
The prior season ended after Aquacades, as that was the last event planned for the current members. Only a few weeks following, three material clinics and tryouts began.
The process began with a mandatory pretryout parent/student information meeting on May 6 in the NDB Dining Room. Students and parents were given an introduction to the coaches, the sport of cheerleading, a rough outline of how the season will go and important team information, including the time, financial and travel commitments.
On May 8, returning coaches Morgan Craig and Lea Santini held the first tryout clinics in the afternoon. The cheer clinic was first, lasting from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The attendees were first led through a warm-up, mimicking the start of a real team practice in season. They were then taught the tryout cheer and dance, which concluded the tryout material.
Jumps began soon after, and they were then walked through a jump routine, beginning with a single toe-touch. Following the cheer tryout clinic was the pom clinic. This lasted from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
The pom tryout also began with a thorough warmup, and athletes practiced their turns, kicks and leaps across the floor.
The clinics continued on for the next two days, May 9 and May 10, during the same times and covering the same categories.
The tryouts followed later that weekend on Saturday, May 11 with cheer being from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and pom directly after from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The 2024-2025 rosters were released on the NDB Spirit Squad Instagram page just before 5:00 p.m. The coaches are gearing up for the season ahead and are looking forward to bringing the team to nationals, with hopes of bringing back a sixth USA National Champion title.
