On March 1, the juniors met in the Innovation Lab after school to attend their class bonding event, the Monarch Movie Night, to watch “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”
They proudly earned this movie night after raising the most money out of the freshmen, sophomores and seniors during Student Giving Week in September. This week helped students get involved in donating to the Annual Fund, which contributes to parts of athletics, academics and other fees that are not already covered by tuition.
The class contributed to choosing the movie after Activities Director Hailey Kockos sent out a Google Form to the Monarchs requesting movie recommendations, Especially after a tough week preparing for the SAT and getting back into the swing of things after Intersession, the movie night was just what they needed.
“I think it gave everyone an opportunity to just relax together on a Friday after school,” said Kockos. “You didn’t necessarily have to watch the movie … you could just talk to the people next to you. Some people went together to go work on the backdrop if they didn’t feel like watching the movie, which was like, another bonding opportunity.”
To add to the fun, complimentary popcorn, candy and drinks were provided for students to enjoy throughout the movie. Fan favorites were Dr. Pepper sodas and chocolate chip cookies and they quickly ran out, so people were encouraged to select their snacks before the movie started. The lights were also turned off and the movie was playing on a large, flat-screen television, similar to a movie theater.
“There’s not much time left in the school, but I definitely want to plan something like this again, whether that is with the whole school or just working with our class,” said Junior Student Council Athletics Director Emilia Luis.
Especially with the juniors starting to plan for college applications, their class student council is working diligently to plan more class bonding events to ease the Monarchs’ stress levels. The movie night allowed them to relax and unwind while enjoying quality time with their friends.
