Many NDB students attended and participated in this year’s Tri-School musical, “The Addams Family.” Based on the popular franchise, “The Addams Family,” the musical is a two-act event with many exciting turns. The musical’s opening night was Friday, March 15, after months of preparation. With casting in November and rehearsals starting in January, it was clear that this musical meant a lot to the cast and crew members from the time commitment alone.
“I think most importantly, what students from Tri-School take away is the family aspect, the comradery and the teamwork that it takes to put together a production,” said Director Gennine Harrington.
The musical follows Wednesday Addams, played by Mercy B senior Gabbie Jison, who has to introduce her new boyfriend, Lucas, to her crazy family. However, right before dinner, Wednesday reveals to her father that she wants to marry Lucas, played by Serra HS Jonah Buan. If this dinner goes well, they plan on telling everyone that night, but once Wednesday tells her father to keep it a secret, everything takes a turn for the worse. With ancestors roaming around the house and drinks that make you tell the truth, in addition to the two-story set, spooky makeup, costumes and lighting, Tri-School’s rendition of “The Addams Family” all came together to make a ghostly yet hilarious production.
“I have to say my favorite part is the opening number. I love that magic moment when the curtains open and the graveyard is there with the fog from the first look. I just feel like it is a wow moment and I hope it captures the audience just like it does for me,” said Harrington.
While watching the musical, which included many jokes about current events and mentions of previous “Addams Family” films, the audience maintained a steady stream of laughter. “The Addams Family” Spring Musical closed on Saturday, March 23 and preparations have already begun for next year’s musical.
