Everyone is guilty of keeping clothes because of sentences that start with “what if.” What if this skirt becomes trendy again? What if I need this shirt for the next spirit week? Finding clothes that make you question if you’ll need them again are probably better off being donated.
Why stack up jeans and sweaters that are out of style? Clothes that you most likely shove into the back of your closet to never be seen again until the next time you go through your closet are not worth keeping. It’s a never-ending process, you find the outdated clothes and put them right back in their designated spot behind your favorite pair of pants.
Donating your clothes benefits not only the community, but also yourself. If the clothes are in pristine condition, why throw them away? Instead, donate to your local donation center so that they can be repurposed. Like some say, one person’s trash is another’s treasure. Donating also benefits yourself by giving away those old clothes, which makes room in your closet for the new trendy pieces.
Clothes are given a brand new life and home when donated. When your clothes get picked up by someone completely new at the thrift store, it has the opportunity to be styled differently or repurposed for something else, giving it a long lasting journey.
It is a tradition for my family and I to clean out our closets every three months or so. We not only clean out our closets, but the rest of our home as well, including toys, sports equipment, books and more. We then gather everything and put them into large trash bags, but not to throw in the trash but rather to donate to the Thrift Center in San Carlos, right off of Laurel Street. This tradition allows us to not only have a clean, decluttered house, but to also give our things to those who will get more use and joy out of them.
Donating is easy and practical for everyone, so why not do it? It is important to help the community around you and donating is a step towards that.
