With Valentine’s Day approaching, walking down the aisles at Walgreens or CVS can be tempting with tons of chocolate candy options. All of the bags lined along the walls with every variety of chocolate and filled with either caramel or nuts might be intimidating at first glance, but NDB students have strong opinions that might help you make your decision while scavenging for a sweet treat.
The best chocolates that you can find throughout the candy aisles are the Ferrero Rocher hazelnut boxes, according to several students, “I like the Ferrero Rocher because I like hazelnuts and it’s good for a cheap candy,” says senior Alyssa Kimoto.
Chocolate on Valentine’s Day might seem cliche but is actually a great way for people to bond on the romantic holiday. For several students, Valentine’s Day isn’t even about romantic relationships but more about family and friends and celebrating their love for each other. Chocolate provides a great gift to express your appreciation for one another whether you are receiving a box from your family or giving one to your best friend.
“My mom gives me flowers and candies on Valentine’s Day to show how much she loves me”, says senior Jazzy Westphal-Cullen. Not only is she receiving gifts, she is also giving them on this special day. “I’m giving him a box of Valentine’s Day treats, toys, and I got him a Valentine’s Day sweater,” says Westphal-Cullen when discussing her plans to treat her cat.
For everyone who spends this holiday indulging in some chocolate candy, some more common recommendations include Hershey’s Kisses, Ghiradelli Caramel Hearts, and Assorted Chocolates from Godiva. Although there are so many delicious treats offered at your nearest convenience store, there are some that you should stay clear of.
