NDB’s broadcast journalism program and news show, Tiger TV, continues its restart for the school year, initially offering bi-weekly live broadcasts via Zoom during the fall semester and now offering weekly broadcasts via YouTube during the spring semester.
Since it was re-equipped with new broadcast equipment during the summer, the basement studio space is active once again with student journalists learning and practicing their roles as engineers, news anchors and production assistants.
Work continues on the studio to improve and enhance the student experience. NDB parent Robert Sullivan volunteered his time and expertise in designing and building a new set for the news show. His experience stems from his work on the sets for Tri-School Productions.
Currently covered by green screen fabric as students decide on paint colors and the overall look, a new background and anchor desk await their on-air debut sometime during the semester.
The continuing renovations have made a positive impact on the production value of the broadcasts and the future of the renewed program, especially with the new Mass Communications concentration that will launch in the fall.
Tiger TV returns under the guidance of Journalism adviser Robert Rojas and with help of The Catalyst’s Editor in Chief Mia Muzzi and Managing Editors Ashley Strain and Ashley Turner. Members of the Journalism I through IV Honors class and the Journalism club participate in the planning, rehearsals, and production of each news broadcast.
Tiger TV was founded in the early 2010s by former NDB teacher Frank Ryerson, for whom the studio is named after. Under his leadership, Tiger TV became known as the only all-girls TV station in the Bay Area.
