With the spring semester underway, the winter sports season is coming to an end and celebrating their senior student-athletes. From the cheer and pom teams to the basketball and soccer teams, each senior from the Dragons Class of 2024 is recognized at their last home game in what is traditionally known as the senior game.
The event is usually a bittersweet event as each senior is able to look back on their time playing their sport for NDB. Each night is flooded with the presence of all of their teammates and coaches as well as their family and friends. They are in attendance to show their recognition and support for them at one of their last high school games.
The seven Spirit Squad seniors Isabella Davis, Kiara Karcich, Alyssa Kimoto, Malia Lamb, Gigi Shaughnessy, Ashley Strain and Lucy Wood were celebrated at the annual Catfight basketball game on Wednesday, January 24 in the Moore Pavilion.
They cheered on their fellow peers for one of the last times at the game following the ceremony, as the basketball players played hard against Woodside Priory. Although this was not the end of the squad’s season, it was one of the last times that these senior Tigers were seen on the sidelines.
“Although it’s sad that it was my last game, I was grateful for the opportunity to be on cheer for all four years of high school,” said senior Malia Lamb.
The soccer team held their senior night last Friday, February 9, recognizing their seven seniors: Olivia Caron, Kaylee Ellerhorst, Ryann Leyte-Vidal, Sabrina Phillip, Milan Pineda, Carly Sullivan and Cailin Thompson. These senior athletes all played in one of their last games of high school soccer, many of them having played the sport since childhood.
Senior Cailin Thompson has been playing since she was three years old. She is currently waiting for her college admissions letters to arrive in order to determine whether she will continue playing at the next level.
“I’m sad it is going to be over, but I am excited to do it with this team one last time,” said Thompson.
The basketball team is set to say goodbye to their three seniors, Cameron Brady, Vivian Martinez and Julia Oliveira-Killmon on Tuesday, February 13 in a game against Crystal Springs Uplands School.
“I feel melancholy because I am excited for senior night, because the underclassmen will make it really fun. But, I also feel sad because basketball is going to be over really soon, and we are going to be leaving the underclassmen,” said senior Cameron Brady, reflecting on the eight years she has spent playing basketball.
