Finals can seem extremely overwhelming to freshmen because of rumors from upperclassmen who say they are super stressful, can determine one’s future and could make or break one’s chances of getting into top colleges. This information to someone who has never taken this big of a test is scary and intimidating.
Finals usually consist of an exam or a project that makes up one’s final grade for each semester. There is one for every subject and the finals process usually takes one to two weeks. Juniors have been through this process four times already, so they know the drill and offer help for the freshmen.
“Stay organized, take a lot of notes and make sure you review everything,” stated junior Tila Chin.
“I would definitely say study more than just the night before and it’s really helpful to get into study groups with your friends,” said junior Gabby Lonardo.
“Study, take it seriously and you guys got this and we can help you with anything that you need,” stated junior Jane Hipps.
“My biggest piece of advice is definitely time management and making sure you can plan ahead and understand which finals you’ll take first and which finals you’re taking later to know when to plan out your study patterns,” said junior Allison Lui.
These pieces of advice from juniors tell freshmen to stay organized, manage their time, and get with friends to help them achieve success.
The seniors also have advice for freshmen taking finals as they have gone through this experience six times and are preparing for their seventh time.
“Freshmen should not procrastinate and they should get their studying and other projects done about a week before finals. That would be perfect,” explained senior Julia Breckenridge.
“So my advice for freshmen taking finals would be to make sure that you plan ahead and to look at the schedule,” shared senior Cameron Brady.
“My advice to freshmen taking finals is do not wait until the last minute,” said senior Julia Oliveira-Killmon. “If your teacher gives you time in class to work on your project, take the time and work or study and use your collaborations because sometimes our collaborations are taken away. So, when you do have collab, meet with teachers and just use all the time you have.”
All of this advice is meant to ease the stress that comes with going through finals. With all of this information, freshmen should be set and ready for when winter finals roll around.
