Concerts are interactive experiences where people can sing along with artists’ music and buy their merchandise. It has become increasingly popular to dress a certain way, depending on the artist, and to sing the lyrics of every song. But, has this practice changed with fans going too far and obsessing over different artists?
With the rising popularity of concerts like Luke Bryan’s “Country On Tour,” Travis Scott’s “Circus Maximus Tour” and Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour,” all of these shows have gone viral on social media with lots of videos receiving many views. For those who could not make the concerts, clips of songs are easily accessible on the internet. However, on social media, people take this too far and disrupt other peoples’ experiences.
The increasing popularity of these concerts and the amount of people wanting to experience what they have seen on social media has caused ticket prices to rise an insane amount. Depending on the artist, resale prices have cost at least a couple hundred dollars more than the sale price.
It has become a trend for popular influencers to only attend concerts to record it and then post it to social media, taking away tickets from actual die-hard fans. Being present at a concert to justify a ticket must also apply to any attendee.
Because of this, people have become even more serious about going to concerts, not wanting their hundreds of dollars to be wasted by disrespectful fans.
Being respectful at these events should be a given just as it is to have a fun time. Fans should not have to worry about people ruining their once in a lifetime experience by being loud or obnoxious.
“I think that it really sucks when someone… is talking the entire time to the point that you can’t hear. I think it’s also rude to be making TikToks or responding to Snapchats the whole time because you bought tickets to be there and enjoy the concert, not to be on your phone,” says freshmen Caylee Pickham.
Social media can be a good resource when wanting to entertain yourself, but there are times where you should put your device down and be in the moment. Concerts should be an enjoyable experience to all involved, meaning everyone should keep the others in mind when having a good time in a public setting.
