Almost every article written about breakfast emphasizes it as the most important meal of the day, however, NDB students have a different point of view. Although most students may agree that breakfast is a vital part of the morning, not everyone can afford the time to make themselves a meal.
Senior Fiona Maroun exemplifies this. “I wake up late. I wake up like 20 minutes before I have to leave,” said Maroun when asked if she eats breakfast or not.
Many students are similar to Maroun and are not able to eat until later in the day. However, breakfast is a crucial part of setting up students for academic success. Breakfast helps students focus in class and keep up the energy to learn throughout the day. Without it, students risk a decline in academic performance due to a lack of paying attention, and even if they manage to get breakfast, they might sacrifice valuable class time to enjoy a meaningful part of their day.
Whether it is waking up too late, taking a while to get ready or the line at Starbucks is too long, eating in the morning always seems to be pushed off until lunch.
“I am always thinking about having breakfast when I get ready in the morning. I just never have the time,” said junior Vicky Wang.
As for the freshman students, it is hard to pick up breakfast on your way to school when your mom is the one giving you a ride. Luckily enough, NDB offers breakfast in the morning to students who do not have time on the way to school. Even just grabbing something small from the Tiger Cafe in the morning could help students tackle their morning classes.
“I have a small breakfast in the morning from the Tiger Cafe which consists of a muffin and occasionally hot chocolate but nothing heavy,” said freshman Taylor Hom.
Regardless of the circumstances, students are encouraged to prioritize breakfast in the morning, whether it involves waking up earlier or allocating time to pick up Starbucks.
