Being in the Bay Area, there is always lots to do and many different things to see. This is amplified by the holiday season, in which many attractions and events come to various cities around the area. If you want to do something spirited and fun to do this Christmas season, there is no need to look very far.
The holiday festivities start early with the arrival of several pumpkin patches in Half Moon Bay, which typically open in October and will stick around through mid-November. These patches are family friendly and cater to all ages, offering a fun spot to pick out pumpkins for fall and tend to be a photo-op for most visitors. Also around mid-November, Santa’s Tree Farm opens up in Half Moon Bay. This is a choose-and-cut tree farm, meaning that you get to go into the lot and cut down a fresh tree yourself. This is a great activity to do with family to spend some time together and pick out this year’s Christmas tree.
Ice skating rinks will be set up in November and stay open through January, offering a fun winter activity to do with family and friends. There is a rink in San Mateo’s Central Park along with the iconic one in San Francisco’s Union Square. Regardless of your ice skating abilities, it is an enjoyable experience for everyone, especially in an area where we do not get any snow
For a more relaxed and local holiday experience, check out all of the intricate Christmas lights that are put up for December. Eucalyptus Avenue in San Carlos is always a popular spot, as the houses on the street go all out for Christmas, decked out in lights and decorations. You can drive down the street to admire the lights, walk on the sidewalk for an even better experience, or head to some of the hot chocolate stands scattered around the street to warm up.
Various plays are scheduled in different locations, adding to the holiday entertainment. The San Francisco Ballet presents the classic Nutcracker, and the San Francisco Symphony performs A Charlie Brown Christmas. Another exciting production coming to San Francisco is the Mamma Mia! Musical, and while it is not a Christmas play, it is a very fun, beloved movie that you can see brought to life on stage. Going to see a play or production is a great way to have a night out and enjoy the holiday season.
The Bay Area always has a variety of fun activities to do during the holidays, and there is sure to be something for everyone.
