First founded in the 1920s, Uggs started off as a plain, brown boot, made for sheep shearers to wear as they lasted much longer in the conditions they worked in. Now, 100 years later, Uggs have evolved into having thousands of styles, displaying multiple different colors and styles, becoming one of the most popular shoes.. When walking the halls of NDB, the popularity of these shoes can be seen by the many students wearing all the different styles; the mini boots, the regular boots, the slippers, and the most recent trend- the Tazz slipper.
Though these boots are currently trending in fall fashion, they come with a hefty price tag, causing many to wonder if they are really worth it or are just a fad. Ugg slippers start at $110, while the Ugg boots start at $150, all ranging in different sizes and styles.
NDB sophomore Isabella Micheal, who has Ugg slippers, said, “I love my Uggs because they’re super comfortable and cute.” But when asked if Uggs are worth the money, Michaels said, “No, I don’t think they are. I got mine for Christmas, but I probably wouldn’t buy them on my own. I’d rather get something cheaper.”
However, NBD sophomore Sophia Tapp said, “I think they are worth the price, I’ve had mine for years and they’ve lasted.” She commented that she also has the Ugg boots, adding that they are very comfortable and cute.
Due to the high prices of the shoes, many “dupes” for Uggs have come out, boasting a dramatic decrease in price but keeping the same quality, just without the name.
Finley Wilke-Hiland, a sophomore at NDB, bought a pair of slipper dupes from Amazon.
“I love mine because they’re comfortable, keep me warm, and they’re cute.” said Wilke-Hiland, “I got mine for only $25 and I don’t think Ugg slippers are worth their full price. I think the Uggs boots are worth it though.”
In conclusion, most of these reviews point to the answer: Uggs are not worth the price. They might be cozy and good quality, but it’s a hefty amount of money especially for high school students.
