SZA is an American singer and songwriter who has released 2 successful albums now. The SOS tour is her second concert tour. The tour was announced on December 13th, 2022 with 18 dates. However, due to high demand, SZA announced 15 more dates in Europe and 21 more in North America.
On October 26, 2023, SZA came to Chase Center in San Francisco. The concert started at 8:00, but many fans arrived earlier, not wanting to miss a second of the show. D4vd, the opener for this show, started off the show with a couple of his songs including “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me”. D4vd’s performance brought a level of energy to the crowd as fans anticipated SZA’s performance, coming after his.
Finally, SZA arrived, entering the stage while sitting on a diving board, only to change into a glittery outfit, starting the concert by singing her song, “Seek and Destroy”. She took the stage with four of her backup dancers, their silhouettes highlighted by the background of the stage, showing a dock over water.
SZA sang nine more songs, including some songs from an older album, CTRL, until she had another costume change, coming out dressed in a pirate outfit. The theme of the show changed quickly during her song, “All the Stars”, with the background then changing to a pirate ship scene to match her outfit. SZA and her dancers move around the stage, dancing on parts of the ship as well.
Out of all the outfits, the fan favorite out of all of them was when she came out wearing a hot pink dress, adorned with a bow on the back, floating in on an orange raft. She flew over the crowd, interacting and waving at fans, until she returned to the stage for yet another outfit change. For the last part of her concert, she came out wearing a black and white outfit, overshadowed by the huge anchor set behind her.
SZA ended the concert by playing “Snooze”, “Kill Bill” and “Good Days”, some of her most popular songs. After her last song, a huge box came down, covering the stage and SZA, displaying the words, “The End”. Many of the concert goers started to leave, eager to beat any traffic, relishing in the end of the concert. However, shortly after, SZA’s voice filled the venue and fans rushed back, tricked by her surprise ending. The concert finally ended with her song, “20 Something”.
Overall, SZA’s SOS tour has received amazing reviews, with each concert grossing around $1.9 million with around 13,000 tickets sold per night. The success of her tour is parallel to her album that has been 1st on the Top R&B Albums Chart for an unprecedented 41 weeks, selling millions of copies since its release. While it is too late to attend a local concert, the album is available on streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music.
