The widely anticipated spirit week leading up to Halloween always features themes that vary between different ideas, ranging from sister class competitions to individual dress up days. This year is no exception, and the NDB Associate Student Body (ASB) spent a lot of time planning an exciting week for students to showcase their best outfits.
“We started coming up with ideas in general for spirit weeks and rally games like during our work week and even over the summer, but a month ago is when we started solidifying what this year’s spirit week would look like,” said ASB Spirit Director Mallory Moore.
Aside from it being a fun week to dress up, there were also many opportunities to win spirit points. As an incentive for students to participate every day of the week, a secret staffulty member was on the lookout for the five best costumes they saw and the winners would earn extra spirit points for their class. Spirit points were also earned by checking in with ASB or student council members at lunch and winning contests that took place throughout the week.
The week began on Wednesday, October 25 with the theme of Superhero vs. Superstar, with the sophomore and senior classes dressing up as superheroes, and the freshmen and juniors being superstars. Students went all out for this day, dressing as their favorite heroes and celebrities to win spirit points for their classes.
Thursday included a pumpkin carving contest where students could submit their pumpkin to win in the spookiest, most creative, or best overall categories. Students did not disappoint with their pumpkin carving skills and were determined to succeed in the three categories.
On Friday, students got creative and dressed up individually as something that started with the first letter of their first name. This was definitely a favorite for students, and the day was filled with a variety of different costume ideas, such as angels for the letter A and carrots for the letter C.
After the weekend, students returned to school on Monday dressed up as anything horror movie related, ranging from famous characters to scary monsters. Some costumes included the twins from The Shining and Georgie from It, and it was sure to give anyone a fright. The day also included a baking contest where participants could bring baked goods to try and win in the categories of tastiest, spookiest, and most creative. All of the sweet treats looked haunting and delicious.
On Wednesday the 31, NDB held its Dingbat Rally and Halloween costume contest. Students dressed as anything they wanted and entered into the contest for a chance to win the best homemade, funniest, best duo, best group, and best overall costumes.
As usual, this spirit week did not disappoint. Students showed their excitement to participate each day with creative costumes and it got students ready to celebrate Halloween.
