My first day of high school was just a few months ago. I remember the excitement, nervousness and awe I felt as it dawned on me that I was really beginning 9th grade. It was just my first day and even though I was a little nervous, I knew I was where I belonged.
There were many things about NDB that told me I was at the right place from the start. One of these things was how welcoming and helpful the girls were. Link Crew, the teachers and all the other students made me feel like I was at home. Other students were always willing to help me out, answer any questions that I had or help me find a class. Even girls walking through the halls who I didn’t even know would give me a smile. These little gestures of kindness were what made me feel so welcomed. Another reason I love Notre Dame is because of the small school community. I came from a private/catholic school much like Notre Dame, so I was already familiar with the environment. Personally, I love the uniforms and all girl aspect of NDB and I find it beneficial in many different ways. I take a long time to pick out clothes, and it is handy to get up and know that I don’t have to worry about that. I just put on my uniform and go! There is also a perfect balance because we get free dress on Fridays. It’s the best of both worlds! As for the all girls detail, it only makes me love my school more. The classrooms are quiet, students are focused and you can just wake up and roll out of bed. My old school was coed, and the classes were a little crazy because of this. For example, I remember being in 8th grade when the teacher was trying to pull up a video. Anytime an ad would pop up before the video, the boys in my class would start screaming and laughing. Fast forwarding to my time at Notre Dame, a commercial came on before one of my teachers played a video. I cringed and braced myself for the obnoxious laughter I was used to, but to my delight, there was no laughter. The girls in my class didn’t care about a silly commercial. There was not a single giggle, and it was amazing.
I also love that Notre Dame has something for everyone. You can do sports, run for Student Council, participate in the Tri-School classes, be a part of the mock trial club, join the cheer or pom team, be in a club or start your own, choose from a variety of visual art classes and more. The various activities NDB offers is sure to make sure everyone finds something they can enjoy.
I have only been at Notre Dame for a few months but it feels like so much longer than that. I know that I will cherish and appreciate the memories that I make here forever. Dear Notre Dame, thank you for the many shadow days that pushed me in the right direction and thank you for the delicious brownies. But most importantly thank you for being my school, my community, and my home.
