The sisterhood of NDB is an aspect that has been valued over the many years that the school has been established. Traditions are an important component of this connection within the student body. They not only strengthen the bond within classes, but also form connections between current students and alumnae.
Each grade level has its specific traditions: freshmen have Link-O-Ween, sophomores get their class hoodie, juniors have The Gatsby Ball and seniors have Senior Sunrise. As students grow older at NDB, the traditions which were once class bonding events soon turn to opportunities to make final memories.
Senior year is vital to take advantage of, so the green Dragons Class of 2024 are encouraged to attend as many class events as possible. The 2023-2024 school year has ushered in new and returning traditions that are sure to bring the class closer together.
As a part of last year’s school auction, families of rising seniors were invited to purchase a parking spot that their daughter could design and paint. With the purchase, seniors were granted a bonding event for the beginning of their last year at NDB. The event was organized by a team of mothers who planned out the overall costs and purchases.
Just before the first day of school, seniors spent hours working on what is now known as the new Senior Parking Lot. Snacks were provided to ensure that the students were satisfied on the long strenuous day. They recruited family and friends to assist in the work. Strength in numbers was certainly the phrase of the day.
The parking spot painting party is sure to be looked forward to by students in younger grades. Seniors get to leave their temporary mark on NDB, a salute towards the unity of sisters which can be demonstrated through the beautiful collage created by all of the spots.
Seniors were also given a chance to resurrect another senior tradition. The class requested an off-campus bonding activity. When presented with the opportunity to spend time at a Giants baseball game, a large number of seniors excitedly accepted. They joined together on the bleachers of Oracle Park to root on the home team in their match against the Rockies. Hopefully, this tradition can possibly open the doors to other innovative off-campus activities.
Such traditions offer students a chance to step out of their comfort zone and seek friendships outside of their current circle. This emphasizes the theme of sisterhood within NDB. Students should be sure to check off as much participation in these events as they can.
