When students began school in mid-August, the air was filled with the aroma of new paint, the drone of building construction and the excitement for something new. They were welcomed with the surprise of many changes and improvements made around campus. These updates, both externally and internally, enhance NDB’s campus and all it has to offer.
With its new decor, furnishings and other enhancements, the parlor at the front of NDB has been upgraded. Often used as a welcome center for prospective parents and students, the appearance of the room serves the majority of its purpose. The inviting style of the parlor allows it to be a comfortable spot to have conversations, interviews and meetings.
Down the hall, NDB’s library is open to students throughout the day for collaboration and study hall. Students may hold club meetings in the space or spend time there for quiet, uninterrupted study time. Over the summer, the library was improved with new collaborative spaces and lounging couches. Students are satisfied with the new variety of study spaces.
On the second floor, the installation of air conditioning units in every classroom has been among the most appealing updates so far. The weather gets exceptionally hot during the beginning and end of the school year. So, the addition of air conditioning makes the school more accommodating and comfortable for students. Because of the cooler surroundings, it makes learning, teaching and working more pleasurable for both students and staffulty.
After a few years, the Tiger Cafe and conjoined dining room have been significantly enhanced. The rearrangement of the dining room tables allows for more room and more seating available for students. The flow of the cafeteria during lunch and events runs smoother with the spread out placement of the tables and chairs. Also, the maintenance team hung canvas photographs of NDB students in action on the walls. The photos capture the students in a wide variety of activities, ranging from academic and elective classes, rallies and spirit events, sport games and more. In an effort to better match NDB’s school colors, the walls of the Tiger Cafe have also been revitalized.
Carolina Whitty, NDB’s Chief Financial Officer, works to administer and organize the school’s many physical improvements.
“The major renovations that we undertook this summer focused on enhancing the safety and security of the school, improving communication and emergency preparedness, efficiency and sustainability and the overall learning environment for our students, faculty and staff,” Whitty shared.
The NDB campus underwent a transformation over the summer. Air conditioning, refurbishment, an improved library and cafeteria are just some of the features that make the campus ready to give students a stronger, safer environment for the upcoming school year and more to come.
