The Catalyst (TC): What was your initial reaction to masks becoming a personal choice at NDB?
Caitlin Degnan (CD): I was nervous, but really excited that we weren’t going to have to wear masks anymore.
TC: Do you choose to wear a mask or not wear a mask and why? What do you think of those who think differently than you?
CD: I think that everyone has their own valid opinion. I think that if you want to wear it, wear it, and if you don’t want to, don’t wear it, but I choose to wear it in situations when I know I need it.
TC: Do you think lifting the mask mandate in schools was the best decision for the state to make?
CD: I think it alleviates some of the stress because it means COVID is ending, but it can definitely add more stress to those who are worried about COVID.
TC: Do you think there should be an online option for community members who are not comfortable with the masking guidelines?
CD: Yes, because if people feel that it really bothers them or have weakened immune systems and are nervous about it, they should be able to have the accommodation.
