Ellen Grey, junior at Aragon High School
The Catalyst (TC): So what is a typical day like for you?
Ellen Grey (EG): Well I guess we have school, that starts at 930 so I usually go [then]. It starts at 930 on some days and nine on other days but I usually wake up around eight. You know, eat breakfast and then I get to school at nine usually. And I have my first class which is an hour and 20 minutes, which is really long. We have five-minute breaks and then another class which is the same length. Then we have lunch and then our last class of the day depending on how many classes you take.
TC: How are you coping with shelter in place and keeping in touch with your friends?
EG: Discord is like a godsend right now because it really allows everyone to get together, play video games, or just talk. I don’t think I would really be doing that well without discord and stuff like that.
TC: How has life been at home since shelter in place. So like academically, or maybe physically?
EG: When it when like we first got pulled out of school it was great. It was like video games all day. We did not pay attention in school, It was awesome, like grades didn’t count. And then it got really old really fast. Now, I want to go out and do things. I’ve never thought I would say that, I like wanted to go back to school, but I do like really bad.
TC: Do you wish Aragon did anything differently with distance learning?
EG: Last semester definitely was really bad, but I think this semester was a huge improvement. And even though it’s like not ideal, and no one really likes it, they’re really doing what they can. So I think Aragon is doing a pretty good job. I’m definitely doing way better school wise.
TC: So, what do you like the best about distance learning?
EG: I really like waking up later to sleeping. Yeah, sleeping is nice.
